Orange and Black Tiger Relays

Congratulations to the Black Team, the 2009 Orange and Black Tiger Relays Champions!  In the inaugural event the battle was on from the get go.  The two teams were divided equally, determined by a depth chart based on past performances.  For a first run, and with some athletes being absent from competition, the teams were remarkably close in competitiveness.  The competition came down to the last event, when Tyler Will set a PR clearing 12′ in the pole vault.  We were blessed with great volunteers and great weather.  Thanks to all who were in attendance and all those who came to compete.

In a race for team unity, the 4×4 competition was the highlight of the day as every member of each team combined to form relay teams to compete against each other.  Coach Rhodes and Coach Wicks even jumped in the competition teaming up with Ryan Spilker and Vaughn Kapiko to tie for the overall fastest time.  The other team matching the winning time of 3 minutes 55 seconds was a combination of former and current Tigers Kaleb Fergin, Blake Lundquist, Baxter Arguinchona, and Chris Ennis.  Ennis who made up an almost 80m deficit blasted by the competition to win the second heat of 4×4 races.

The day was marked by notable performances in just about every event.  But, the greatest accomplishment was the team unity and satisfaction that came from getting together as a team to get better.  Click the video below to see some of the relay highlights and the awarding of the championship trophy.
